Steel coils, as an indispensable basic material in modern industry, have a complex and precise production process. 1. Raw material preparation
The production of steel coils first requires high-quality raw materials, mainly iron ore, coke and limestone. After screening and crushing, the iron ore is smelted in a blast furnace together with coke and limestone to obtain molten iron. The molten iron is initially treated to remove some impurities and obtain relatively pure liquid iron.
2. Steelmaking
Liquid iron undergoes further steelmaking in a converter or electric arc furnace. Converter steelmaking is mainly to oxidize and discharge impurities such as carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur in the molten iron by blowing in high-purity oxygen, thereby obtaining molten steel with uniform chemical composition. Electric arc furnace steelmaking uses the high temperature generated by the electric arc to melt scrap steel, while adding alloy elements to adjust the chemical composition of the molten steel.
3. Casting and initial rolling
The molten steel is cast through a continuous casting machine to form a preliminary steel billet. These steel billets can be slabs, square billets or round billets, and different shapes are selected according to the different needs of the final product. After the initial rolling of the steel billet, a thicker steel plate or steel bar is obtained, laying the foundation for subsequent processing.
4. Hot rolling
The steel plate or steel bar after initial rolling enters the hot rolling mill for hot rolling processing. Hot rolling is carried out under high temperature conditions. The steel repeatedly passes through multiple rollers in the hot rolling mill and is gradually compressed to the required thickness. In this process, the organization and properties of the steel are significantly improved, especially its internal structure is more dense and the mechanical properties are better.
5. Cold rolling
The steel coil after hot rolling needs to be further cold rolled. Cold rolling is carried out at room temperature. Through multiple rolling passes, the thickness of the steel is further reduced, while its surface quality and mechanical properties are improved. Cold-rolled steel coils usually have higher precision and flatness, and are suitable for application scenarios with high requirements for surface quality and thickness.
6. Annealing and coating
Cold-rolled steel coils usually need to be annealed to eliminate the internal stress generated during the cold rolling process and improve the plasticity and toughness of the steel. According to specific needs, steel coils can also be galvanized, aluminum-plated, tin-plated and other surface treatments to enhance their corrosion resistance and appearance quality.
7. Finished product inspection and packaging
The final steel coils need to undergo strict inspections, including testing of dimensions, surface quality, mechanical properties, etc., to ensure that they meet relevant standards and customer requirements. Qualified steel coils are cut into the required length and width, packaged and shipped to various users.
